Bexhill United 1 Steyning Town 2
It was another fantastic three points on the road for Steyning Town on Saturday making it nine wins in a row in the league, as they won 2-1 away to Bexhill United.
The Polegrove is never an easy place to go and teams always come away from there feeling like they’ve really had to earn any points.
This was no different on Saturday as swirling wind and rain on the coast and a slightly bobbly pitch made footballing conditions very difficult.
The telling moments came in a really strong second-half for the visitors as clinical goals from Evan Hoarty and Joe Benn sealed the points.
The provider in both cases was Dion Jarvis. Hoarty got on the end of a long raking Jarvis cross to fire home in style on 70 minutes. 10 minutes later it was Joe Benn who got on the end of a cute cut back from Jarvis and fired home into the bottom left-hand corner. This was just reward for Town who had been the better team on the afternoon and had spurned a number of chances to put the game to bed. The visitors also had a few good moments in the game as well with one decent chance in each half which were not taken.
They had to wait until the final minute to get a consolation goal as Crabb fired home in slightly controversial style after Daniels-Yeomans was clattered in his own box whilst clearing the ball for a blatant foul. Thankfully it was too late to affect the outcome of the game. This should not detract from the referees overall performance which was very good on the day.
Overall a strong performance from Steyning; the midfield worked tirelessly, especially in a leg sapping second half, and the back four were superbly marshalled by the returning Tad Bromage and the composed Marcus Allen. With Docherty and Blencowe very solid at full back as well .It was good to see Harry Heath back on the pitch in the second half after an extended absence for compassionate reasons.
Nine wins in a row is a superb achievement. Town remain second in the league and next up is Worthing United in the cup on Tuesday night and then Town are at home on Saturday in a local derby against Shoreham FC.
