Billy Vigar

On behalf of everybody here at Steyning Town FC, we were devastated to hear the news that Billy Vigar died on Thursday at just 21 years old.  We were aware that Billy had sustained a severe head injury last Saturday whilst playing for Chichester City against Wingate & Finchley. Nobody should go out to play the game they love and not return home. He was very well known to lots of us here at the club, as well as many of the players past and present.
Even as a Youth Player at Storrington FC and in the Steyning Grammar School Football Team, Billy always stood out as a fantastic player at every level. Always the captain and best player on the pitch, stop Billy and you stop the opposition was always the coaches instruction.  His quality and ability led him to sign a professional contract at Arsenal, although he did recently return back to Grassroots Football to continue with his football journey.
Its difficult to comprehend a young persons life being taken this way and far too soon, especially when there was so much still in front of them to achieve and a life to live. The Sussex Grassroots Community will mourn and remember a fantastic young man and player.
Everyone hug each other a little closer today.
With all our love, thoughts and support to the Vigar Family at this terrible time.
RIP Billy xxx
