We have been contacted recently about the sound of a drum on a Saturday afternoon for men’s home games. We appreciate the presence of a drum on a Saturday afternoon can disturb part of our neighbour’s afternoon. However, football support is changing and a drum is increasingly part of the current grassroots culture. Our more vocal supporters (mostly in their early teens), together with the players and management, believe it enhances the match atmosphere and as a Club we back that view.
Going forward we are tightening up our policies. These are now:
- only a single drum allowed
- no drum for evening matches
- no drum on Sunday (Women First team games).
- drum only during the game (just before 3pm to 4.50pm approx).
- no drum for third-party pitch hires – we hire out the pitch when it is not in use by one of our squads. No drum will be part of the agreement.
- no drum for away fans.
We do speak to our drummer regularly concerning frequency and volume, although they can understandably get excited in the moment.
We have fewer than 19 Saturday mens home league fixtures (plus typically a couple of Cup) that are mostly on alternate Saturdays from August to May. If you ever want to check in advance our mens home fixtures you can look on our website.
