Steyning Town FC 2 Forecast Row FC 0
Town left it well into the second half on Saturday as goals in the 68th minute and 85th minute from substitute Alex Brewer secured another vital 3 league points for the Barrowmen against Forest Row at home.
It looked like Steyning might be frustrated in a game they dominated from start to finish. The visitors came with a clear game plan to defend deep and frustrate and consequently didn’t register a single shot during the whole game on Saturday. That said they were organised and defended well and it looked like they may well sneak away with a point until Brewer stepped in with two classy finishes.
Mcgrath in the Forest Row goal was superb all afternoon and pulled off save after save, and Town squandered chance after the chance, in front of a vocal home crowd. However, there was a sense of much relief when the three points were finally sealed with Brewer’s classy cameo.
With Haywards Heath losing in Guernsey this put the Barrowmen 3 points ahead at the top of the table but having played one game more than Heath. The first time all season they’ve essentially been level on points with the hot favourites and the one time runaway league leaders (allowing for the game hand).
Nine games to go for Steyning. A week off next week before they return the following Saturday to Home league action against Crawley Down Gatwick FC.
