Sunday 22nd August | 2pm KO | Nyetimber Lane I The Women’s FA Cup – Preliminary Round
This Sunday the Barrownesses start their FA Cup journey with a tough away test as they travel along the coast to Bognor Regis Town.
The Rockettes are familiar opponents to the Barrownesses. Both sides have competed against each other in the London & South East Regional League prior to the current season. Bognor were moved laterally into the Southern Regional League following expansion of the WSL and vacancies available in Higher Tiers up the pyramid.
Bognor Manager Craig Seacombe is also no stranger to the club, having been part of Danny Norris’s coaching set up previously. He moved on to the vacant management role at Bognor part way through last season, and starts his first full campaign with the side this year.
The Rockettes had a strong campaign last year with a third placed league finish. Losing only 4 games all year. They are an athletic and organised side who move the ball well.
Steyning suffered a 1-2 home defeat in the league in October. A Chloe Higham goal wasn’t enough on the day to share the points. The return fixture in March was fiercely contested, a Sophie Humphrey goal inside 20 minutes separated the sides as Steyning went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Nyetimber Lane.
Head to Head over the past three seasons Bognor have come out on top with 5 wins and one draw.
Whilst Steyning are undoubtedly the underdog in the tie, they will be looking to put in the same effort and desire from last week’s second half performance.
Manager Kaz Bridgewater will want her squad to continue to show and implement her football philosophy. Building more foundations as this new group progress through their journey together.
However… This is the FA Cup and perhaps a little bit of that magic can be produced by our Barrownesses to get a result.
One thing is certain, the squad will head to Nyetimber Lane ready to compete, ready to work hard and ready to give everything.
Keep Believing
Come on you Barrownesses!
