Match Preview: STFC Women v Hastings United Women

Sunday 30th August | 2:30pm | LSEWRL

The Barrownesses return home this Sunday for their second league game of the season. Once again facing a familiar club in Hastings United.

Hastings return to the PHMG ground this season under the guidance of new management. With Billy Wood stepping down in the summer, after six successful years as a player and leader on the pitch, Lauren Skinner-Swain takes on the role of First Team Manager.

Hastings United formed a Women’s Team in 2020. In that season they won the Sussex County Premier Division title, at the first time of asking, promoting them to Tier 6 football.

Steyning’s own promotion into Tier 6 occurred in the 2022/23 season. Head-to-head, the two sides have competed in the league 8 times. Hastings have currently won 5 of those ties. Steyning 2 of them & 1 draw.

Last Season both fixtures were tightly contested affairs, with a 1-0 win to the away side in each fixture.

Although the sides have played each other many times over the years, both sides are currently in a transitional period, with new managers taking the helm in the summer.

Skinner-Swain has already begun to make strides building her squad, recruiting experienced striker Dani Parfitt from Tier 5 side Newhaven. Parfitt scored 5 goals for the Dockers last season. Also joining is Georgia Townsend an experienced defender who previously played at this level with Eastbourne United until they disbanded. And finally dynamic forward Leah Hume has arrived at the Pilot Field following spells with Worthing & Bexhill.

Steyning Manager Kaz Bridgewater will be looking for her newly formed squad to continue their growth together. A spirted second half performance against Tonbridge Angels on the opening day and result aside, last weekend. The FA cup performance was full of effort, commitment, determination and some excellent play through the thirds. Kaz and her management team will be looking for the squad to show the same output this weekend.

Please get down and support the Barrownesses as they look to put their first points on the board.
