Steyning Town made it seven league wins in a row on Saturday with an ultimately comfortable 4-1 win against Midhurst & Easebourne United.
Towns plans were thrown into disarray minutes before kickoff as Mitch Bromage the Town keeper was unable to take his place due to a back injury which led to outfield player Alex Brewer going in goal. Conrad Honore also pulling out in the warm up meant Town were two players down before a ball had been kicked.
The early part of the game was also marred by injury as Tad Bromage had to leave the field after a clash of heads with a Midhurst defender who also had to leave the pitch with a head injury. Three players down and barely 15 minutes played.
Back to the action the first period was dominated by Steyning who missed chance after chance and eventually broke the deadlock shortly before halftime as the prolific Dion Jarvis stabbed home from close range after Marcus Allen hit the bar.
The second half followed the same pattern as the visitors defended deep in numbers. The game was in the balance until Stan Bridgman was introduced around the hour and proceeded to score with his first touch, just eight seconds after coming onto the pitch, pouncing on a weak back pass and finishing in style in to the far corner.
Minutes late it was 3 as that man Bridgman again finished well, holding the defender off with a strong shoulder and firing into the top right hand corner.
However, the visitors were not done and the fired home a cracking free kick past Brewer who was left helpless in the stunning goal. A little reminder they were still in the game.
There was however time for Steyning to warp things up as Evan Hoarty burst through in the final minute with a jinking run and finished beautifully with the outside of the boot into the bottom right hand corner.
4-1. Job done. Seven wins in a row. Next up Bexhill United in the RUR cup on Tuesday night.
