Steyning Town FC wish to announce that at the end of this 2024/25 season Gerry Murphy will be stepping down from the Men’s First Team managers position and will taking on a new role within the club. He will also continue to be our Club General Manager and will remain a very much valued member of the club. The club wish to put on record their enormous gratitude to Gerry for stepping into the 1st Team Managers role very late in the day at the start of this season, during a very challenging time, and for all his hard work during the season in steering the team through our debut season in the Isthmian South East Division. Gerry is a hugely popular person at the club with a wealth of club experience, and we are excited to continue our ongoing future development with him involved.
As a result of Gerry stepping aside we are very pleased to announce that Mike Hamm, our current Assistant Manager, has agreed to take on the First Team Managers role going forward into next season. ‘Hammy’ has been with us, and working alongside Gerry, for a number of months now, and has made a big impact during that time. He already understands the club, how it operates and alongside his managing & coaching prowess he bring the passion, energy & people skills that the role demands. Hammy’s full back room team will be announced in the near future, and he is already looking at shaping the playing squad and how he can best prepare for the challenges ahead.
This is a very exciting time at the football club and the current season has cemented our desire to establish ourselves in Step 4 football. This is a long term project, that has come a long way already, and although we reached Step 4 this season sooner than we anticipated, our investment in the ground facilities of around £100k this season shows our desire to compete at the best level we can in the long run, whilst operating in a financially sustainable way.
This appointment has no relevance to which league the 1st team will be playing in next season 2025/26. We wish Hammy all the very best in this new challenge as another chapter begins.
ON BEHALF OF THE STEYNING TOWN FC COMMITTEE
Paul Hart, Chairman : “Would like to personally thank Gerry for taking up the 1st team managers role this season. It has been a tough season both on & off the pitch but one we have all learned lots from. I look forward to continue working closely with Gerry in his new roles at the club, and continue to drive our ambitious club forward to be the best it possibly can.
I also want to welcome & congratulate “Hammy” into his new role as 1st team manager for the forthcoming season and look forward to working with him. It is an exciting time at the club, as we look forward and aim to fulfilling our ambitions during the forthcoming season.”
Mike Hamm : “Since I joined the club in December, I have really enjoyed being here and working alongside Gerry and the players. I have seen how much of a well run club Steyning are, and you only have to look at what is going on around the ground to see the legacy they are creating for the present & future . The challenge ahead is an exciting one, and I am looking forward to pushing on and helping the club achieve its aims of being back where they want to in Step 4 as soon as is possible. We want to finish the current season as best we can, whilst looking ahead and planning ready for next season. I would like to thank Paul and the rest of the committee for giving me this opportunity.”
