Steyning Town 2 Pagham FC 0
Steyning Town ground out a hard fought 2-0 win last night against Pagham FC to proceed to the next round of the Sussex Senior cup. It was not a game that’s going to live long in the memory as both sides battled hard to assume dominance in the game however Steyning showed that winning has become a habit and they can grind out wins in a tough and physical match.
Ultimately the game was settled with by two second half goals from the Barrowmen. The first was a moment of brilliance from full back Josh Rondel. Langford close down a back pass to the Pagham keeper which was sliced clear. The ball fell to Rondel all of 40 yards out and on the half volley he fired the ball back first time over the heads of the static defenders and a back pedalling keeper who were left helpless.
The second goal, and the wrapping up of the victory, came from that man Langford, who was released by Howell on the halfway line and he raced cleared and finished in style sweeping low and hard in to the bottom right hand corner.
There can be no real complaints based on the chances created that Steyning were worthy of the win however Pagham played some good football at times but ultimately most of their build up play could not be converted in to chances in the final third as Lucas in the Town goal had a relatively comfortable evening.
Town march on in to the second round and next up its a return to league action at The Shooting field on Saturday as we host AFC Uckfield Town looking to make it an incredible ten wins in a row.
