Peacehaven Match Report

It was 13th time unlucky for Steyning Town on Friday night as their incredible run of twelve consecutive wins was ended as Peacehaven held Town to a 1-1 draw on Friday evening under the lights.
On Free Football Friday a whopping 334 made their way to the Shooting Field and were treated to a really intriguing game of football full of passion , commitment, quality and excitement (and Piglet Pantry pies). Everything you expect at this level of football.
Overall on the balance of play the score was probably a fair one. The Barrowmen were the better side in the first half, but the visitors were much improved after the break and were looking the most likely to force a late winner until keeper Stroomberg – Clarke was sent of for rather a needless two handed shove on the lively Johnson -Fisher who had been causing problems all night to the ‘Haven rearguard.
However, in terms of finding the net, it turned out to be a night for the captains. Both Barnes for Steyning and Barclay for Peacehaven led by example and put in captains performances. In the first half Steyning had already gone close with Johnson-Fisher thumping the upright and the tireless Josh Bradley going close, when Barnes nipped in thirty yards out, winning the ball, before stepping forward and unleashing a thumping low drive in to the bottom corner. Barnes was terrific all night, as he has been recently, covering every inch of the pitch driving his team on.
Barclay, not to be outdone on the scoring front, waited until early in the second half before finishing tidily in to the bottom corner after a rare foray from the back by him. To be fair it was Barclay who had been clearly furious with his fellow players as they came off at half time, so he clearly had been a significant driving force behind the visitors getting  back in to the game.
Other chances were at a premium over the course of the 90 minutes but that not to say it wasn’t an exciting game. Both sides had really good periods, and the tempo and commitment stayed at a really high level throughout. Town had a couple of half chances late on against the ten men but overall it wasn’t to be. A breathless evening brought to an end by young ref Harvey Ransom .
Great to see new signing Jared Rance coming on late on as he continues his recovery from a lengthy spell out injured. Another good signing to improve the quality of the squad. Tough games ahead in November, after which Towns season will really start to take shape.
Peacehaven clearly have plenty of quality and nooone should be fooled by their current league postion. Expect them to make strides up the league. Overall great entertainment and a fair result that neither side will be disappointed with.
An outside chance of the October team of the month award for us with 7 wins and a draw!!
For now an 8 day rest before heading over to Little Common of the 5th November for some more fireworks.
