Statement from our Chairman

Statement from Ian Nichols, Chairman, Steyning Town FC.
It is with huge sadness that I have taken the decision to step down as Chairman of STFC. Since being taken ill in November I have been hoping the recovery might progress to enable me to continue in my role. Unfortunately this is not the case and I don’t feel it is fair to the club to continue in my role. Paul Hart, Vice Chairman, has been doing a fantastic job as acting Chairman, ably supported by our Treasurer, and former Chairman, Richard Woodbridge. Moving forward, Paul has indicated that he would be willing to take on this challenging, but hugely rewarding, role. I have every confidence that, with the support of our wonderful committee and volunteers, Paul will continue with this great ongoing project.
I have been involved with the club for around 15 years as coach, committee member, commercial manager, vice chairman, and for the last seven and a half years, chairman. As a club we have achieved great success and, off the pitch, fantastic development of the facility, including our much envied artificial pitch. This project is always evolving and developing, and will continue.
The dedication of our volunteers and committee is beyond the comprehension of most outsiders. Without this fabulous group of people we could never achieve all we have. The professionalism and enthusiasm of Gerry Murphy and his team has got us through some difficult times and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for their contributions. Danny and Geoff who run the womens team, all the youth /managers and coaches, parents and volunteers, everyone at the club has made my job so much easier and rewarding over the years. I cannot thank you all enough.
I am so proud to have fulfilled this role over the years. The messages and support I have received from so many people has been truly overwhelming. Thank you all so much.
Ian
