Steyning Town FC’s terrific run of form continued on Saturday with an emphatic 4-0 League win at home to mid-table AFC Uckfield, making it a club record ten straight wins in all competition.
On a sunny but blustery afternoon at the Birchwood Shooting Field a hat-trick from Jack Langford (15 goals now for the season) and a superb late solo goal from substitute Dom Johnson-Fisher well and truly wrapped up all three points for a land mark victory.
On the whole the match was largely a rather flat affair with very few key talking points. However, we were quick off the blocks and on just six minutes we went in front when Langford got on the end of a neat ball in from the right from Josh Rondel and netted at close range.
The early goal set up up nicely and we attacked and created chances with Josh Bradley and Jack Barnes both striking the Uckers woodwork with good attempts and Grant Radmore and Langford always looking threatening up front.
The visitors also had their moments but being a quite young and inexperienced side seemed to lack a cutting edge in the final third.
Half time – Town 1 Uckfield 0
After the break we continued to press and more chances came our way but there were also times when we were playing a little too deep , making ourselves a potentially vulnerable and a more experienced visiting side may have exploited us more.
Never the less, after Bradley again rattled the Uckers woodwork, Man-of-the-match Jack Langford completed his hat-trick with two breakaway goals in quick succession and then in the closing stages, with the full bench of subs again being used, the fresh legged Johnson-Fisher cut in from the left, leaving several opposition players in his wake to shoot wide of the AFC keeper to find the bottom right corner of their net to crown a another high scoring and club record setting performance.
Yes, top marks …10 out of 10!!
Kevin Green has assembled a quality and committed squad of players and the team has gelled really well over those last ten matches, producing 37 goals (average 3.7 per match) and conceding just 7.
Confidence and belief is increasing throughout with each game. We now sit in 3rd place in the SCFL Premier Division, just one point off top spot. Well done one and all!!
